You live!

I have been trying to calm myself and sublimating the fact that my PC will reach its end soon. Talk about being pessimist. I guess I'm just being realistic. This PC has served me for about 3 years and I think I have maximized its loyalty.
I said "This" which means I am using the concerned machine in making this blog. Hurray! It lives.
For some reason, my PC is now booting. Thank goodness! I guess it just had its moment. Like humans, it needs some time off. Away from its slaver driver master! Hahahaha. But then again the PC takes about
5 minutes to startup. Oh well, I can live with that better than nothing

Happy New Year!

Weekend Snapshot 17

After my overtime duty today, I went straight to the mall to have the shirt size I bought last night changed to a bigger one.
I took the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) to avoid the holiday traffic.

I was surprised to see unoccupied seats on the coach.
This is very unusual scene since when you ride MRT, you could literally get in and out of the coach without walking. People will actually push you and you'll move like a log. Seriously. No exagerration.

Numbered days

My CPU has been away from me for the past 2 days. I don't know what happened but it just stopped to boot. My brother-in-law took it to his brother's computer shop for check up and was found out that it's infected with a virus.
On the lighter note, it can be removed by reformatting but the gray area and the greatest dilemma is that the hard disk installer that came with the PC when I bought it is missing.
Oh for the love of God, where could I get it?
My PC is working temporarily (thanks to the bro-in-law's bro!) but it won't be too long because as soon as i turn it off, it wont boot the hard disk again.
Darn! I'm not ready to buy a new PC. I'm planning to get a notebook in March which is the earlier possible based on my budget.
This is just perfect!

Tooth fairy, are you coming yet?

For three days now, I have been bugged by tooth ache. I go to the dentist every month so I know for a fact that I don't have dental carries. Though in the past, I noticed that my pre-molar tooth is sensitive to cold food and drink. Now, I'm experiencing searing and radiating pain. I have not had good night sleep for the past 2 days which is bad because I have early shift in the office. My tolerance for pain is relatively high but the pain is excruciating. Problem is, I need to wait until tomorrow to go to my dentist since the clinic is closed for the holidays.
I guess I have to contain myself in taking prn analgesics. I'm popping paracetamol and mefenamic acid because the acetaminophen we've got has caffeine in it. I can't afford to be up all night.
Ugh! I hate medicines.

And the winner is...

We had more than a month of preparation and I have been talking about the efforts we have exerted to come up with our presentation. It's good that it has paid off.

Yesterday, we had our dress rehearsal. The venue was huge though it's familiar to me since we have had our previous Christmas parties there before but this time it's different. I was one of those performing before a handful of audience including the judges and our company's top officials.
Everything has to be done in sync since each team was only given with an hour to complete the dress rehearsal.
We were able to make three runs. Each run has caused my heart to flutter.
We went straight to the hotel to wash and dress up then straight back to the (Philippine) World Trade Center.

Our group was the defending champion ergo, we were the last to perform last night, the fifth one that is.
Seeing the performance of the first three groups, I personally believed that we were still in the game. The fourth group did Ricky Martin. While the group was performing, we were back stage to prep. All we can hear were the loud audience responses. I thought they were bringing it.
Our time has come....a roar from the audience started. I had a hard time breathing in bonnet.

I'm glad my adrenalin kicked in. It was a fight moment. We delivered!
The judges were astounded. One commented that she felt like she was transported to Caesar's Palace. We were ecstatic because it was the concept of our performance. To showcase Celine Dion's recently concluded Las Vegas show.

I'm not a jinx after all.
I'll be posting more pictures soon.

Weekend Snapshot 15

These were taken during our company hosted Fun Familia (Family Day) last summer at a local theme park here in the Philippines.
I was with the employee volunteers having fun after the day's demanding work (we ushered the employees' family the whole day.

Taken during lunch break

First time to be behind the wheel. It was fun. Nervous at first though.

Still dripping from the Rio Grande plunge we headed for the ATV ride. My first time again so I was being given instructions on how to jump off...just in case (LOL)

wet clothes plus the rough road ride = clay woman!

We had to hurry because we had to usher back the guests to their respective buses.
Hope y'all have a great week ahead!

The Ritual Dance of the Brave

December 16 marks the founding anniversary in the Philippines of Alpha Phi Omega International Collegiate Service Fraternity and Sorority or simply known as APO.
Each APO chapter in UP campuses holds an annual oblation run in celebration of the national anniversary. This is one of the most awaited events in UP.
The very first oblation run was done in 1977. Rolly Abad, an APO member ran naked in the A.S. lobby of UP Diliman as a form of promotion for play the fraternity was sponsoring called "Hubad na Bayani," (Naked Heroes), Abad was killed in a rumble few months later. The run was held yearly with noble themes every year to commemorate his death.

Contrary to some people’s belief, only the members of the APO are allowed to run since it's a privilege. Neophytes are the ones helping other members controlling the crowd.

P.S.
Recently, APO has signed up partnership with Gawad Kalinga dubbed as Kalinga ng APO.

“The APO now makes its neophytes build houses in a Gawad Kalinga village in a remote province as part of 40 hours of community work.” By Belinda Olivares-Cunanan/Inquirer

Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget all the ones that I love.
I'll take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away"

What goes around, comes around (?)

Is the Forex a good basis in gauging the economic status? About a year ago, the Philippine peso rate against the US dollar was around P55.00: USD1.00. Today, the Peso-Dollar exchange rate closed at P41.240: USD1.00.
Goodness, gracious!

Why am I freaking out when the Peso appreciates? My salary is in Peso which should ideally mean that my buying power will become stronger.

Top four freaking reasons:

1. Impending oil price hike - this has prompted a nationwide strike among public transport drivers today. The strike was hardly felt though because there are still some drivers who went on their usual plight. They still have mouths to feed at the end of the day and no one could blame them for not participating.

2. Pandesal's (famous bread mostly consumed for breakfast here in the country) cost will increase from P1.00 to P2.50 each due to the continued increase in the cost of wheat, flour and other ingredients. This means that bakery products will also rise. As a proof, my favorite whole wheat bread's price surged from P54++ to P59++.

Funny thing is, On the lighter note, Fact is, Simplicio P. Umali Jr., president of Philippine Baking Industry Group, said "Flour prices could have been higher if not for the continued appreciation of the peso against the dollar,"
Oh well, thank you - NOT!

3. Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) will hike power charges by 6 centavos per kilowatt hour.
4. Manila Water Co. Inc. will raise its water rates beginning Jan. 1, 2008.

So I guess, what goes up will stay up and continue to go up and will never ever give up and never take a nosedive.
Surely, there is something wrong somewhere.
Nancy Drew, where are you?
