Exploring the Philippines

As I scan through the cable channels, I chanced upon Travel and Living's Bizarre Foods' episode exploring the gastronimic side of my country.

The  host, Andrew Zimmern  was really game trying on weird food that I myself won't dare pop in my mouth.

It made my gut squirm.

‘Ol good Lechon Manok

Since Friday, I have been craving for Lechon Manok (roast chicken) so yesterday I asked 3 of my teammates if they want to buy one for lunch and will part the chicken into quarter. It’s really satisfying. We ate our parts with massive amount of rice plus coke zero!
The life!
Now, I have to deal my water retention problem. It occurred to me right after my sister scolded me that the chicken was marinated in a gazillion amount of sodium!
Good thing Lasix comes handy.

My gastronomic wanting

Last month, my friend Tim and her hubby celebrated their anniversary with a buffet dinner at a five-star hotel.

The buffet had international cuisines served. Hearing from Tim and looking at the pictures of what they’ve had, I am actually wanting to have a good gastronomic experience.

I am not thinking actually of splurging on hotel buffets because that would definitely cost me a month’s budget. While I try not to go easy on my food budget, I don’t want to be harsh either. I am a picky eater but I am telling you I eat to my heart’s content when I liked the food.

I was checking on San Diego dining guide and found out that they’ve got the widest listing of San Diego Restaurants from fining dining to laid back set up.

If you’re like me who is always on the go, you could narrow your research according to cuisine, atmosphere, special feature or proximity. The absolute local flavor served online.

And if you’re like me who’s always undecided what to pig out with have among Seafood, Vegetarian, Continental, American, Sandwiches, Delicatessen, Thai, Vietnamese or Italian, go get the San Diego restaurants coupons to make sure that your pocket won’t be ripped off. Unless you have a date who’ll pick the tab.

The sweet life

My sister I believe makes one of the best Yema.
Yema is the Spanish word for ‘egg yolk’. Giving a little twist to it by adding pure condensed milk, Yema is known in the Philippines as custard candy.
I’m helping my sister earn extra income by selling these Yema’s in the office. This week, my officemates have been asking me about the Yema. The problem was, my brother-in-law bought cheap condensed milk and as a result, my sister cooked a subs-standard Yema that she did not want to sell. Talk about quality!
Today, she was able to cook the high-standard one:

Here’s a trivia I got from The Pilgrim’s Pots and Pans:

Back when there was still no cement, indigenous materials were used. A lime mixture (compounds of calcium, not the citrus) combined with egg shells and egg whites, among others was applied to the walls to make it more durable. One can imagine how many thousands of eggs were used for one massive building. Since only the whites were used, the egg yolks had to be utilised as well. Thus we have various egg-based recipes, mostly desserts, such as leche flan and yemas.

UPDATE:

Geez, I was wrong. The Yema was not perfect. Nah, it was not my sister’s fault. Her hubby took charge of the cooking and it was disaster! I’m sorry officemates but this sister of mine does not want to tarnish her reputation.

Rising up to a nutty day!

Almost everyday, I go to the supermarket beside our office to check if my favorite cereal has been replenished. It's been almost two months I guess since the store has displayed Post Banana Nut Crunch. Among the Post's selections, it's the only one that sells like a hot cake. The minute it's displayed, it's all gone when you blink (an over statement of course LOL). Seriously, It will not take a week after it's taken out of the stockroom, the rack will be swept clean of this particular variant.
So when I passed by the lane of cereals, my heart thumped! There are 10 boxes of Banana Nut Crunch. Hallelujah!
In my fear of getting "starved" again for the next 2 months, I hoarded. Hahahaha! I bought 5 boxes and if Monday (my payday) there are still left, I will put them all in my cart.
I'm not a person who eats breakfast on a regular basis. Then, I could start my day at work or in school and have my first meal in the afternoon. I'm trying to make some changes in my life. I'm imposing upon myself to fill my stomach with something before starting any of my daily activities. and this cereal is the only one that works for me.
All I can say now is that I have 5 good boxes of reasons to waking up in the morning!
